Color Selection

Your signs need to stand out, so the colors you choose are vital.  We are able to produce campaign signs ranging from one color, to an amazing multi-colored display.  The choice is up to you, but we recommend bright colors that will draw attention.  People driving by will only see your sign for a few seconds, so you want to pick something that catches their eye.  It is also important to pick a color that is not being used by your opponent.

Font

It is best to use a block style or sans-serif font such as Helvetica.  People need to be able to read your sign clearly, so try to avoid using cursive or script fonts.  Those are difficult to read at high speed.

Keep It Simple

As mentioned above, potential voters will see your signs as they’re driving by, and that’s why it is important to make them catchy and convey all the points you want to make in a couple of seconds.  Key points you want people to see are:

• Name
• Position you are seeking
• Catchy campaign slogan

Make sure you think about where your signs are going to be placed, and how big they are going to be.  Customize your design to fit the size of the sign.

Follow the Local Laws

Make sure you know the laws in your area before ordering your signs; or you could be forced to remove them, and even be fined.  Many states require you to have information on your signs stating who paid for them, and sometimes your campaign address and treasurer’s name.  Federal positions also require a thin box around the disclaimer.  Some areas even have restrictions on font size.  It is important that you check with your local city administration regarding laws, restrictions, and regulations before placing your signs.

The World War II Bond poster shows members of the 28th Regiment, Fifth Marine Division raising the American flag on the summit of Mt. Surabachi, February 23, 1945. This U.S. victory came after four days of bitter fighting on Iwo Jima, 750 miles south of Tokyo.

Without degrading the original artwork, our customer wanted to “brighten up” the imagery and give it a semi-watercolor feel. Mutliple colors were asked to be removed (primarily yellows) and colors like the red of the flag needed to be livened. We were also asked to remove the 7th War Loan portion and enlarge the NOW–ALL TOGETHER text to fill across the width of the sign.

Our first step was to redraw the image in a vector format allowing us to manage colors individually and to give the watercolor effect.

Once the vectorization was complete, it was a matter of trial and error with the customer to settle in on the final draw.

Below you will see a rendering of the final art as well as pics of the finished product hanging in the lobby of the client.

Well… Rich Landerer (Rickland Surfboards) and Rich Wisz (Wisz Surfboards) for their recognition in the Surfline tribute to Shaper’s Alley in Costa Mesa-Newport Beach.

Every now and then we get an odd request… ok more often than not we get an odd request, but we try to rise to the occassion and do something unique.

Pureglass in Costa Mesa, CA is a surfboard manufacturing and supply company that basically puts the fiberglass / fins / finishing touches on all the borads from many very good surfboard shapers in the southern california area. They work with shapers such as Dano, JC, Rickland, Wallin and others…

The project called for a full wrap on 3 surfboards to be used as a display piece in a fraternity at a major college in Los Angeles (2 guesses on this one), namely Alpha Kai.

Because of the shape of the boards, the job is not a simple wrap, the fins were glassed directly to the boards causing even more grief.

With a mulit-piece collection and minimal seaming, we completed the job… exhausted and underpaid… but satisfactorily and the client was stoked! (Their words).
